Marjorie Pickering

December 26, 2016

Marjorie Pickering 96, of Frankfort, Indiana, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday December 26, 2016 at her home of 75 years.  She was born November 10, 1920 in Frankfort to James Harvey & Sarah Lu Creecy (Sipple) Day.  On February 12, 1937, she married Homer N. Pickering, a favorite meat cutter to many Frankfort ladies.  Homer moved to heaven October 14, 1989.

Marjorie was a member of First Christian Church since 1950.  She served in several Christian Women’s Fellowship offices and will be remembered for many great meals for the church.  She also taught Sunday school for several years.  She worked as the office receptionist for Drs. J.A. and Paul VanKirk.  And she worked as office receptionist for the dentist Dr. Lyle Bailey.

She made salads and baked ham and baked beans for Spencers Market and Fudges Market for all the years Homer cut meat for Spencers and Fudges.

Her Christian walk led her to be a servant caring for her parents, her sister, Lelia, and her brother Curt Day the World Champion Horseshoe Pitcher.  She also cared for many neighbors and friends.

One of Marjorie’s great joys and accomplishments was serving as a Girl Scout Leader for over 15 years.  She took her Troop 2 to many places and taught them lasting life lessons.  One fantastic trip included going to the National Girl Scout Camp in Washington D.C., seeing the sights in Washington D.C., the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and a grand tour of New York City including the Statue of Liberty.  Many of her scouts went on to be Girl Scout Leaders.

Marjorie was a great, great person and great neighbor on Burlington Av. to my mother and me too. She and my mother had many, many times sharing morning coffee, talks, and garden vegetables. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sally, Karyn, and Craig and your families as you mourn the loss of such a special person as Marjorie in your lives.

Sally: So sad that your mom has gone home. Yet I know that she is in a much better place with love ones who have gone before. Seeing pictures of Lee, Homer, your mom, your grandparents, means that the circle that won’t be broken is fuller than it was before. To that I say Hallelujah!!!! THANK YOU JESUS! You are in our prayers. Carry on the Good Fight. Dave & Carolyn Schulz
