My prayers for the family in this season of loss. I worked for Walter when he owned the grocery. He taught me how to work. He taught me customer service. I’m very appreciative to have known him. Sorry to hear this sad news, but no doubt he is walking in heaven in the glorious presence of the Lord Jesus.

Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you for your kind words and prayers.

Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you, Jason for these kind words. The grocery store was a big part of his life and also the lives of others. I always thought he had some of the best boys around here that worked at the store. Yes, you were one of them. At times he would mentioned the different boys that he had work for him. They were all special to him.

Facebook Twitter GoogleJackie I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad. I used to see him regularly at the center and enjoyed visiting with him. He had some great stories. The greatest consolation is that now he’s at peace and with your mom.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you. We referred to the center as his second home. We believe the game-playing and companionship really added to his life. And I know he enjoyed you as well.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleI remember Walter well. Visited his grocery most every day. Very nice man. So sorry.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you so much. Small-town life like we had is all but gone, but weren’t we blessed to grow up in Kirklin.

Facebook Twitter GoogleI am sad to hear of your Dad’s passing. When I was back there just a few weeks ago, I called him to arrange a visit, but he said he wasn’t feeling good and asked me to call back later. Unfortunately, I had to fly out early the next morning. I told him who I was, but I’m not sure he realized who I was. Walt was a big part of my life and we had some good laughs at the grocery store, like the time he put a sign in the front window stating I needed a date for the Saturday night dance at the American Legion. I will never forget those times and I’m sorry I never got a chance to see him again. I pray that God blesses and comforts you all during these difficult times.

Facebook Twitter GoogleWe were just talking about you! The story about the sign in the window may even make the funeral service. So many funny stories. We were wondering if it worked. Even though you didn’t have the personal visit, you did get to phone him. And yes, he most certainly knew who you were. Thanks for your kind words and for reaching out to him.

Facebook Twitter GoogleThe sign did work, but I won’t reveal the name to protect the innocent. (Smile) I’m glad I got to say hello to Walt, but it would have been great to visit and talk about the past.

Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you SO much for sharing this story. My sisters and I had not heard of this one. It has now become one of our special memories of him. What you shared….that is my dad! Just as the store was a big part of his life, so were his workers. At times he would mention the different boys that they had worked there. I remember him telling me that Tom could fix anything. He could take a t.v. apart and put it back together. Don’t know if that was true. But he said it! Thank you, again. We will cherish that story.

Facebook Twitter GoogleYou are welcome. Even though I didn’t reveal who it was, I’m sure somebody is going to tell you! Wow, I can’t believe your Dad remembered that. Yes, my degree is Electronics Engineering and later in Tucson, I went back to school for computers.

Facebook Twitter GoogleWhen we look back on our lives there are people we remember with special feelings and respect and WAlter was one i will always remember. The thing I remember most is his compassion and caring of other people regardless of how old they were or who they were.

Facebook Twitter GoogleThat was nice of you to say that. It’s good for a daughter to hear kind words about her father.

Facebook Twitter GoogleSo sorry to hear about your father. He taught me a lot about cutting meat. I have been cutting meat at Purdue for 35 years now, how time gets away. He taught me to do something you love.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleDad would often mention you. He was proud of all the boys that had worked for him.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleYes, Dad was proud of all his “boys.” And who would have thought working at a small-town grocery store in Kirklin would prepare you for a 35-year+ at Purdue. I know that made him extra proud.

Facebook Twitter GoogleMy thoughts are with you all . Will greatly miss seeing Mr Hansen, I always enjoyed our talks. Very thankful for the invite to his birthday celebration this year.
Rest easy Mr. Hansen,

Facebook Twitter GoogleThank you so much. (Sorry I missed seeing you at the store when I told the others what was going on with him.) I’m so thankful for that IGA store where he had friends to watch out for him. I know he enjoyed going in there for deli meals and to get food to prepare his freezer meals. And thank you for helping with his 90th birthday celebration at the center.

Facebook Twitter GoogleSo sorry to hear of your loss. We have a local grocery store in our town of Lewes that was an IGA before it became independent and can relate to the “family of employees” that makes it so special. I am so happy that Walter was able to enjoy his later years so much and was able to raise such a wonderful family while managing a business. I will always remember him as well as his Mom and Dad. My Best to you all.
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleI was hoping Lu Ann got in touch with you. I remember you and your dad coming to visit Grandpa and Grandma Hansen. Those were the “good old days.”
Share
Facebook Twitter GoogleMy thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember Walt as a kind, caring man and he will remain so. My years at Antioch church will forever be recalled thankfully. Thanking our Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus, for sending His Comforter to you all and remaining to bring you peace and assurance. God Bless.
