Robert Earl Spurgeon

Robert E. Spurgeon, of Okeechobee, Florida, died July 28, 2023. He was born February 23, 1932 in Frankfort, Indiana to Virgil and Doris (Kelly) Spurgeon.

Robert was a 1950 graduate of Michigantown High School.  He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and as a patrolman in law enforcement. A resident of Okeechobee for 35 years, he enjoyed antiques and sports, especially basketball.

Visitation and Services

Graveside services in Whiteman Cemetery, Michigantown, Ind. will be held at a later date.

Survived by:

his wife of 70 years, Virginia Spurgeon; son, R. Bruce Spurgeon; daughter, Cherie Dobbin; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Preceded by:

his daughter, Natalie Turner.

    He loved his M.H.S. school. When asked if the school should be repaired or torn down, he was the first to financially respond. We have fond memories of visiting with him in his Florida home. We’ll keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.

    Cherie and Bruce. Been years since we have seen each other. So sorry to hear that Natalie has passed away. I’m the only one left out of my family. John Gunn your dad’s cousin passed in 1994, His wife Dorothy passed in 2003. I lost my son 10/6/2022 and my husband 6/7/2023. All are buried at Whiteman not far from your mom and dad’s.

    Ginny and family, I send condolences in Bob’s passing. He was bigger than life and left his mark in this world. I wish you strength during this difficult time. May God bless you and your family. Keep your faith to endure life without Bob until you meet again.
