James R. A. McKean 91, of Frankfort, IN, died 2:30 a.m. September 7, 2009 at Wesley Manor. Born November 30, 1917 in Chicago, IL to Wilbur Arthur & Edith Josephine (Jeffcott) McKean. He married Joan ‘Cecilie’ Reed on June 27, 1942 in Chicago, IL and she preceded him in death in February 1962. He then married Maxine (Smith) Cottrell on February 9, 1963 in Quincy, IL and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2005. Mr. McKean received his High School diploma while in the U.S. Army and received his Bachelors degree from Grinnell College in Iowa. He received Theological training from Boston University School of Theology and his master’s degree from Western Illinois University and did his post graduate work in Emory University, GA. An ordained minister, he served the United Methodist Church for 13 years, was counselor/educator for the Evanston Township High School for 21 years. Raised in Chicago and suburbs, he served churched in Iowa, New England and Illinois and served schools in Illinois, retiring in 1983. He moved to Wesley Manor, Frankfort in 1990. A veteran of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Sgt. Major from 1943-46. A lifetime member of the Lions Club, Taylorville, IL, member of the National Education Assoc., Illinois Education Assoc., National Retired Teachers Assoc., Illinois Retired Teachers Assoc., A.A.R.P, American Psychological Assoc. and the American Counseling & Guidance Assoc.

Visitation and Services

Services 2 p.m. Friday, September 11th at the Wesley Manor Chapel, visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jake Fisher and Jean Brindel will officiate. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Gardens, Quincy, IL, Saturday, September 12th at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wesley Manor Memory Care Unit or Good Samaritan Fund, envelopes will be available.

2 Daughters: Barbara (Gary) Butler of Plano, TX and Judy (John) Egbers of Quincy, IL Step Daughter: Donna Cottrell of Yellow Sprints, OH Step Son: Max (Bonnie) Cottrell of Avon, IL Sister: Genevieve (Rob) Gay of Kinderhook, NY 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 4 Step Great Grandchildren

Preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Lyman, Donald, George, Ralph, 1 sister, Eleanor and one son-in-law, John K. Egbers.
