Grace Goodwin Miller, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and friend during her 85 years of life passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by family.

Grace was born in Frankfort, Ind. on February 26, 1936, to her loving parents James William “Bill” Goodwin and Katherine (Lucas) Goodwin who both preceded her in death.  Grace married the love of her life John J. Miller on March 25, 1960 in Shawneetown, Ill. and he survives.  They raised three children.   She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1953 and Butler University in 1957, after which she taught school in West Lafayette and Frankfort. She then graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1960, where she met her husband, John.  After graduation of mortuary school, she became a fourth-generation funeral director to carry on the Goodwin Funeral Home which was established by her great grandfather in 1856.  While at Butler, she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.  Her local memberships include First Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she was a former deacon, elder, and active in various women’s bible studies.  Other memberships include Tri Kappa, BPW, Zonta, DAR, Aftermath Club, Clinton OES, AAUW, and the Literary Club.  She also served on the board of directors of the Clinton County Boys & Girls Club.

Grace was an avid golfer and enjoyed walks on the beach at Siesta Key, Florida.  She was a gracious lady and devoted Christian who lived a wonderful life and was loved by many, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Visitation and Services

The visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 3-7 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, IN. Family services will be held on Thursday with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery. The family encourages memorial donations to the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 352 W. Clinton St., Frankfort, IN 46041 or Guardian Angel Hospice, 513 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902.

Survived by:

Grace is survived by her children: William G. Miller (wife Sonya), Marta M. Stuard (husband Scott), Grace Ann Byrd (husband Tony) all of Frankfort. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Alec, Christopher, Kara, Sydney, & Anna, 6 great grandchildren, and a seventh great grandchild due soon. Her sister Katherine Klingler of St. Louis, Missouri also survives.

    What a great lady has left us. Her smile and caring attitude was such a blessing to so many that knew her. I will always remember our fun times of being together while living on Glendale Dr. and raising our kids. The fun vacations to Siesta Key and so many other things we did. Grace will be missed.     When we think back on people that have passed from this world, there are some that immediately come to mind. Those that led such an exemplary life and always made a difference wherever they went. Grace Goodwin Miller was one of those people. She had a way of making each person she encountered feel like they were special, even if they really weren’t, and that what they had to say was important. The heart of a servant was hers for sure. She made a difference in this world and in the life of her family and friends. Isn’t that what we all should do? Although we didn’t see her often, she always made us feel like she was so glad to run into us. Someone that can make others feel so good about themselves, truly has a heart like Christ. She gave freely of herself to others and did it with joy and “grace”. May her sweet soul rest in peace. She will be missed. I will keep all of you close in prayer.

    Bill, I do not know for sure that you were a good batboy, but I do know you are good at your chose profession and that you are good at what you are. You were exceptionally blessed to be born to godly parents who taught you to work and showed you the importance of being a good citizen. Their legacy is safe in you. Even Detroit Tiger fans should be able to recognize when they have been dealt a winning hand. Your father lost the toss and has been asked to live (temporarily) without Grace, but he has you to lean on.

    Bill and family, I’m sad I didn’t get see the notice of Grace’s passing till the day of the funeral, and sorry I could not attend. Your mother was a beautiful and kind lady. She was such a pillar of the family, and I know it will never be the same. Your family is very blessed to have there for so many years. Sincerest condolences from our family–Kristin, Betty, Michelle and myself. Praying for all of you.

    Bill – Thanks for your “wake-up” call earlier this week and for your encouragement to review the Goodwin Funeral Home Obituaries concerning the recent passing of Frankfort Friends. What a trip down Memory Lane with the tasteful, professionally done tributes. I especially enjoyed your Mother’s Memorial – revisiting times I remember as a kid – complete with the horses, golf, Katherine/friends and Bill & Kate Goodwin, my parents close friends/relatives. “Amazing Grace” was always one of my favorite cousins and I hope you keep up the family contacts with not only Drew and his girls, but also Daine, Derrick, Dia and Grant and their families. I’ve asked Tam to ensure you get my obit several years from now, so I can say Goodbye to my Frankfort friends. All the best to you and Sonya, as well as all other Goodwin/Miller family members.
