A big heartfelt hug to all of you for the loss of your dad. A wonderful man with many stories to tell and was very proud of his woodworking skills. He even brought me 2 buckets of tomatoes just last summer. Always generous. He will be missed in our neighborhood.

  8. BJ Hromas June 6, 2023 at 6:07 am

So sorry to hear of the loss of Gerald. My family can honestly say that this man changed our lives. He built our beautiful home back in 1997. I would meet him at the building site early in the morning and he would give me my ‘marching orders’ for the day. My husband and I know what went into every nook and cranny of the house! (Our boys grew to dislike the ‘save big money at Menards’ song!) I am happy to say that I have two of his beautiful woodworking pieces in my home. Truly a wonderful man that loved his family to the moon and back. Again, our condolences to the family. RIP, Gerald! BJ, Mick, AJ & Jake Hromas and family

We are Gerald’s neighbors. Gerald was always outside, mowing or working in his garden or a project. He always had a smile and a hello. Several times we would come home to find fresh vegetables on our porch swing that Gerald had picked to share with us, cantaloupe, cucumbers, they were always a welcome surprise to come home to! He built the house that Mike and I lived in with our 3 kids, until our divorce. Mike and his wife Peggy still live in that home. I can remember the first time he came to the old farmhouse we were living in to sit at our kitchen table and draw up the plans for the new house. Very friendly and helpful. After we divorced I remarried and moved to a house that happened to be across the road from Gerald’s house. He was always such a hard working man ..one of the good guys. He will be missed.

I believe the “best” can be a group which just means there’s room for more than one and Gerald definitely belongs in the group as a craftsman, artist…person. Wise in ways that books can’t teach. I hope you, the family, find comfort in the fact that the world was and is a better place for him having been in it.

Gerald built our house and my job was to fill nail holes. I asked if it had to be done in the closets because no one would see them. Of course Gerald told me YES. Rick thought a lot of him.
