Brian D. Heimbach, 62, longtime Frankfort and current Lebanon resident, died March 2, 2024.  He was born December 3, 1961 in Frankfort, Ind. to Jerry D. & Sharon K. (Gumm) Heimbach.  He married Kelli Sue Kersey on August 4, 1984.

Brian began his career in funeral service in 1985.  His association with the Goodwin Funeral Home family spanned over 3 generations of the firm.  Brian and Kelli also owned and operated Main Street Monuments LLC from 1988-2021.  He was a member of the St. Matthew United Methodist Church and served on several boards and committees in the Frankfort community through the years.  Some of Brian’s joys were traveling with Kelli, coaching high school sports, racing trips on the “Methanol Express” and fishing the bays of the Gulf of Mexico with Braxton. His greatest love by far was being “BaBa” to Drew, Audrey and Maddie.

Visitation and Services

Memorial visitation with the Heimbach family will be Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Private family burial will be in Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort, Ind. with Rev. Phil Lake officiating. Brian asks that memorial donations be made to the Bunnell Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 38, Frankfort, IN 46041.

In addition to Kelli, he is survived by: daughter: Carmen E. (David) Cannon of Lebanon, son: Braxton P. (Angela) Heimbach of St. Petersburg, FL, brother: Robert P. (Annette) Heimbach of Roswell, GA, grandchildren: Andrew G. “Drew” and Audra K. “Audrey” Cannon and Madeleine R. “Maddie” Heimbach, and mother-in-law: Janice Kersey of Frankfort.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gary B. Kersey.

    Brian and I worked together at Shanklin’s Hardware in our high school days. He was always a joy to be around and we had a lot of fun putting the bicycles together and chasing each other through the aisles before opening the store for the day! Brian always had a compassionate and caring smile for us at the funeral home, when we especially needed it . I’ll miss ya “Bum”.

    To Kelli, Carmen, Braxton ,David and Angela we’ve lost a great guy. No one could ever love his family more than Brian did his. Drew was so so special to him. He fought a hard battle for several years and climbed the highest mountains often in pain I’m sure. His life was his family and friends. He will be missed and always remembered. Great fun memories live on. Rest in peace

    I am so glad I got to know Brian best I could from such long distance. He showed me what a great father, husband, and family man should be like. I wish we had more time together but I will cherish what I had with him. My family will miss him terribly and our prayers are with the family.

    I went to school with heiny in the 1960’s+1970’s. we used to call him heiny at the southside school. Last time I saw him was about 31 years ago to the day. RIP Brian and may you sleep with angels. I’ll drink a cold one for you.

    Kelli, Carmen, Braxton and families, My sympathy love and prayers to all of you! I heard during my last visit to Frankfort last year that Brian was battling illness, but opening the webpage today all I could think was ….. Golly! or Geeminy Christmas! both phrases I heard Brian say often when we would get an unexpected death call! My early days in my funeral service career, I was blessed to have such a co-worker as Brian at Goodwin Funeral Home. We had a great time and many many fond memories of funny things that happened over the years at GFH! I have no doubt that Brian’s absence will leave a huge void in all our your lives, but know that he definitely made his mark here on this earth, and touched a ton of hearts, which are better because of knowing Brian! RIP my friend!

    Colleen and I were saddened to hear of Brian’s passing. Not too long ago I saw him at Witham and he shared that he had recently recalled a joke I had told at a Jaycee meeting years ago. We had a good laugh! “Heiner” was a great guy and good friend. Know that you and your family are in our prayers. We are going to be out of state Saturday but will be thinking of you all.

    Wow- Sure hate to hear this. I had the pleasure of working with Brian when I was just a kid starting out in funeral service at Goodwin Funeral Home. (Late 90’s) I remember him as a great guy and caring funeral director who contributed nicely to my start and education. He was kind, upbeat- and helped lighten things up in a work setting that needs that sometimes. Good memories…I think he and Bill helped me get a date one time!

    Kelli I’m so sorry for your loss of Brain!!! He was such a fighter!! He was such a gentle and kind soul!!! We always were talking about him and your children at the hospital!!! He was so kind and supportive when we have lost family members in the last few years. He was always there with a hug and a smile and caring words of support. He will be missed so much!! He always had such good remarks about you and the families. Lifting you and the family up in comforting Prayers.

    Kelli and Family! We are so sorry for your loss! Brian was a true servant. He was so great with us when our son Scott lost his battle with cancer! He also was very generous to Isabelle at that time. We will never forget what a kind generous man he was!

    Dear Kelli and family,
    My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this very difficult time. I have met many people in my life and I have never met a person that was more positive and kind as Brian. I’m sure he had to have a bad day every now and then but I never saw Brian without a smile and a kind word every time I saw him. He was the energy and sunshine in every gathering that Brian was part of. This world would be a much better place if there were more men like Brian. That might be impossible because I believe they broke the mould when they made Brian, and that is a shame. He will be missed dearly by all who knew Brian. Hopefully he and Gary are drowning a worm or making a birdie in heaven. May the Lord be with you and your loved ones.

    Brian was a kind man, great husband, and great father. I had the pleasure of connecting with him through Braxton. I always enjoyed his presence when he came to visit Angela and Braxton in FL. He always had that mid-western kind-hearted spirit and I loved that about him. He will be missed dearly. Hope to see you all again soon. Love Gina

    We lost another great classmate. Brian could make anyone smile, the way he worded things was unique. Brian was a giving, caring and community minded man. He spent hours of his life caring for families in their time of need.

    And yes, he loved his family deeply. May all of his family and friends find peace and comfort in their good memories of Brian.

    Brian was one of my first friends when my family moved to Frankfort when I was in first grade. He was so nice and funny. We remained friends and always had fun until junior high when classes were split up. Shortly after my family moved away. I never forgot him and always wondered how he was doing. Condolences to his family. He was a great guy. Too many of my friends from that time have now gone. I will never forget his smile and how we laughed.
