Irene Richey, 91, longtime Michigantown and Frankfort resident, died September 8, 2021 at Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, Ohio.  She was born on May 17, 1930 in Clinton County to Edward and Mabel M. (Laughner) Ridenour.  She married William P. “Babe” Richey on June 13, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2007.

Irene attended school in Beard and graduated from Michigantown High School in 1948.  She was a homemaker and she and Babe owned/operated Davis Fence Co. in Michigantown.  Irene was known by many as the queen of “Frogtown”.  She was a longtime member of Michigantown United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed sewing, golf, bocce ball, and bowling, and loved playing video poker and traveling with her daughter and son-in-law in their motor home.

Memorial donations may be made in Irene’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN  46240.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be Noon – until the time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. 

Survived by:

Surviving are her Daughter: Pamela Kaye (Michael) Shores of Springboro, OH; Son: Monte Lee (Doris) Richey of Michigantown, IN; Grandchildren: Tammie Wimsatt, Teresa Garrison, Josh Richey, Jason Richey, Jay Shores, and Kristi Eickman; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 10 Great-Great-Grandchildren; along with countless friends.  

Preceded by:

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Reldo, Garland, and Harley Ridenour; sisters: Audrey Meadors and Maxine Sproal; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

    Dear Pam and Monte, Aunt Irene was a very special perso. I remember when she had a place in Michigantown. She gave me paint I needed, of course no charge. I will always remember our family reunions. They were wonderful. I love her with all my heart. May she Rest in Peace.

    Pam, so sorry. Mike’s dad lived in Michigantown and every time we’d go by your home I’d wonder about you. Last Aug. 28, Mom would have been 100. She’s been gone about 20 years now. It wasn’t easy losing Mom. It’s like we still had an umbilical cord attaching us!!! I’ll look for you on fb.

    Monte and Pam, I am very sorry for the loss of your Mother. I remember when you lived in town. Always thought that your home on the farm was spectacular. Fortunately, it still is. Coming into Michigantown, it started to be home when you could see that big smiley face on the front of the barn. Always thought that looked like Babe!
    Shared many memories of your parents like the Michigantown Fair and the Michigantown Community in general.
