Thelma Metzger Purcell, 93 went to be with her Lord and see her friends and family again on December 1, 2016 in Greenville, SC. Thelma was born on December 7th, 1922 in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of Theodore and Josephine Metzger. Thelma met Maurice in Louisville in early 1945 at a USO dance, fell in love, got married and moved to Rossville, IN, where they lived for almost 50 years. Thelma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and worked as a beautician in Rossville for many years. They moved to Greenville, SC in 1994 to be closer to family when Maurice’s health began to fail. Thelma loved all of her family and extended family dearly and was a friend and prayer warrior for all who needed prayer. She was a devoted member of Rossville United Methodist Church for almost 50 years and an associate member of Greenville Associate Reformed Church for almost 20 years.
Visitation and Services
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, Ind. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, Ind. A memorial service will be held at the Greenville ARP Church, Greenville, SC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rossville United Methodist Church, 110 W. Main St., Rossville, IN 46065 or the Greenville Associate Reformed Church.
Survived by:
son, Maury (wife Kathryn), and daughter, Karen (husband David), as well as her grandsons Chris (wife Erin), and Rob (wife Adrianne) and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Andrew, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded by:
her parents and all of her 11 brothers and sisters, as well as her loving husband, Maurice.
