Russell Lowell Mathews 91, of Frankfort, IN, died at 4:55 p.m. May 6, 2013 Milner Community Health Care, Rossville. Born July 24, 1921 in Sheridan, IN to Levon B. & Mary R. (Hodge) Mathews. He married Margaret Geraldine O’Bryan on June 22, 1946 and she survives. Mr. Mathews attended Jackson Township High School and was a lifelong Clinton County resident. In 1937, Russell went from Clinton County to California to work in the Douglas Air Craft Company, building bombers. Mr. Mathews was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He was a WWII hero, having earned the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, 1-Star Asiatic Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation, European-Middle Eastern & South China Seas Medals. Upon returning home from the service, he was machinist working both for the railroad and Chrysler, retiring after 29 years. He loved history and kept his uniforms, medals and other service memorabilia, as well as those from early ancestors from Clinton County, who fought in the Civil War.
Visitation and Services
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Scotland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

(Rick Akers) Mathews of Frankfor,t 4 Grandchildren, Matthew (wife Stacy) Rawlings, Jackie (husband Zack) Paulsen and Jacob and Kelly Mathews, 7 Great Grandchildren, Beckett, Skyler, Paisley, Eden Rawlings, Zeke & Cade Paulsen and Tanner Mathews.

It was a great pleasure to have taken care of Russell during his stay at Milner’s Community Healthcare. He may be gone from this earth but he will not be forgotten. He is in no more pain. Keeping all of your family in my prayers through this difficult time, especially your mother.
