Robert E. “Shorty” Irwin, 91, of rural Frankfort died at 4 p.m. November 4, 2017 at Witham Hospital, Lebanon, Ind. He was born March 26, 1926 in Frankfort to Glenn & Gladys (Kelley) Irwin. He married Virginia M. Ayres in July of 1952 in Frankfort and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2005.
Mr. Irwin attended Frankfort schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in south Pacific during WWII. He worked for Nickel Plate Railroad, National Homes in Lafayette and retired from Chrysler in Kokomo. Mr. Irwin formerly attended the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. He was a former member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #54 and was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.
Visitation and Services
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, Ind. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Pam Ditson-McCall will officiate the service. Burial with Military Honors will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Memorial Honor Flight, c/o Lafayette Honor Flight, P.O. Box 275, Lafayette, IN 47902.
Survived by:
1 Daughter: Sarah (Reed) Daulton of Mechanicsburg, 2 Sons: Tom (Barb) Irwin of rural Frankfort and George (Alma) Irwin of rural Frankfort. 7 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchild also survive.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother and his great grandson Logan Irwin.
