Rachel Kimberly McKibben

June 18, 2020

On Thursday, June 18, 2020, Rachel Kimberly McKibben, loving daughter, sister and aunt, passed away at the age of 35 due to complications with diabetes. Rachel was born on April 16, 1985 to Steven and Barbara (Jones) McKibben in Frankfort, Indiana. She attended Frankfort Senior High School where she learned to play violin, and was active in both her faith and love of her family.

Rachel was an inspiration to everyone she ever met. Her positivity and smile never wavered as she radiated strength through a long and difficult battle with diabetes.  A fierce dedication to her family, friends and faith helped Rachel find meaning and purpose in life and she was completely committed to being there for anyone else hurting. Growing up surrounded by 3 brothers, Rachel learned the values of patience and fortitude as well as the ability to throw a shoe with laser-like accuracy when she had enough of them. Her humor was unparalleled; any moment spent with Rachel was usually full of laughter. As an avid Hello Kitty collector, Rachel always found comfort in being surrounded by the people and things she loved.

I was friends with Rachel when I lived in Indiana almost 11 years ago. When I saw that she had passed I was shocked. I am so sorry for her family’s loss.

Dear family I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of Rachel. She was a real fighter with a smile. I met Rachel through her grandmother Jackie. Despite both of their long term illnesses they both always had a ready smile. I’m sure at a time like this Jackie would share something regarding her faith to comfort the family and no doubt Rachel would heartily agree. When visiting Rachel at her apartment she would usually ask for a bible verse to be read to her. May you draw comfort from your memories of Rachel and Jackie and their beautiful smiles.

I am a classmate of Barb and Steve’s…so very sorry for your loss! I live in Northern Indiana now and haven’t talked to Barb in ages (and last it was through Facebook). I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers as this is the toughest time any parent can have to go through. Take heart in the fact that she suffers no longer.

    Dear McKibben,

It was a pleasure to love and pray for Rachel. She was an extraordinary young lady, who persevered despite years of complications due to Diabetes. Her strong will and character through severely difficult times inspired me greatly. Please know you continue to have my love and prayers. May God continue to bless you in a special way!

Rachel and I met online. We shared stories, laughs, tears. I sang a song for her and it moved her to tears. I remember her saying how much she loved it and how she couldn’t wait for me to sing to her again. I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to sing for you again. I wish I heard you play your violin, that would have been awesome. Rachel was always talking about her fondness of hello kitty stuff and I always thought that was super cute.

    Rachel, you will be missed.

Rachel was such a loving, kind-hearted woman, so full of smiles and laughter. . Jim and I thought so much of Rachel. I always told her “your such a fighter, but a sweet one at that.” She had a heart of gold. Often we would talk about the things she was looking forward to concerning her faith and as I listened to her the thing she most wanted was to be healthy and be with her family. She said many times how much she loved her family and how she appreciated everything they did for her. If you were one that she told she loved you, you knew it was spoken with true feeling. I was one who was told she loved me and I cherish those words even now when I think of her. Even now she makes me smile…what a lasting impression Rachel made on us both.

Rachel, Rachel, Rachel…. the memories speak for themselves. You weren’t apart of my life for too long but the time you were you were the biggest part. We had our ups and downs but I knew you cared for and loved me for so long after. Its too bad we couldn’t have stayed friends after the falling out but I’ve always wished the best for you. I love your family deeply and feel so much for them right now. I pray God lays his hands on your family and gets them through this rough time. You had so much reason to hate life but instead you cherished it, you loved and you made every day worth it for yourself. Rest in Peace Rachel.

I just wanted to send condolences to The McKibben Family. While, we had only met briefly on one occasion, I have worked with Steve for the last four years and feel that I have come to know you all, in a way. My heart breaks for you at this time. There really are no words. I pray that God will keep a good watch on you all, ease your pains, dry your tears. May he comfort your hearts and remind you that Rachel is at home with him and is doing just great. Our hearts and prayers are with you all.
