Pat was the daughter of Martha J. (Reardon) and Robert L. Rowe. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and had one brother, Reardon. In 1930, her family moved to Frankfort.
She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1946 and attended Butler University for 2 years before marrying her high school sweetheart, Robert D “Bob” Robertson, on May 22, 1949. For nearly 30 years, they lived on a family farm and raised their four children near Forest, Indiana. While living in the Forest area, Pat was an active member of the Forest Methodist Church and the Forest chapter of Eastern Star.
Pat started a long teaching career as an elementary teacher at Scircleville School in 1957, later transferring to Clinton Central Elementary. In 1963 – while teaching full time, raising her family and attending night classes – she received her degree in Education from Butler University, graduating as a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society with the highest grades in her class. Pat also received her Masters in Education from Butler in 1968.
Pat retired from teaching in 1976. She and Bob moved to the Florida gulf coast in 1978, after she had been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. She recovered and they enjoyed many wonderful years as full time residents on Sanibel Island and in Fort Myers. While on Sanibel, Pat was an active volunteer at the Sanibel Public Library for several years and was the director of the library from 1984 to 1991. The couple graciously hosted many visiting family members and friends while living in Florida until June of this year. They were active members of the Sanibel Community Church and the Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Myers – Pat enjoyed being a hand bell choir member at each of those churches. Travel with close friends and family was a favorite pastime, with England being an especially beloved destination. Pat’s other activities included reading, bridge, quilting, and tennis, as well as canoeing with Bob.
