Nora Jeanette Smith, 88, a former Clinton County resident, died June 10, 2019 at Heritage Park Village, Mount Pleasant, TX.  She was born December 26, 1930 in Lafayette, Ind. to the late Floyd L. & Rubie (Roberts) Johnson.  She married Bruce A. Smith on March 28, 1949 in Atlanta, Ind. and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2009.

Jeanette was a 1949 graduate of Colfax High School.  She was very active on the farm along with her husband.  She was a member of Colfax Christian Church and had also attended Pleasant Hill Church on the Boone/Clinton County line.  She was a member of the Clarks Hill Order of Eastern Star.  Jeanette’s passion was horses and she was a founding member of the Girl’s Barrel Racing Association of Indiana, the Indiana Barrel Futurity, Battleground Saddle Club, was a 50 year member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanette’s honor to the Texas Oncology Foundation, Nora Jeanette Smith Memorial, 2101 Mulberry Street, Mt. Pleasant, TX  75455.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 Noon Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, Ind.  Funeral Celebration will begin at 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home.  Pastor Ken Thompson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax, Ind.

Surviving Family includes her Son: Ed (Wife: Jackie) Smith of Sulphur Springs, TX; Granddaughter: Sara (Husband: Todd) Weber of Terrell, TX; Grandson:  Scott (Wife: Tracie) Smith of Saltillo, TX; 2 Great Granddaughters: Taryn Weber and Nora Smith. 

Preceded by:

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

    Mrs. Smith’s family,
    I did not know your Mother/Grandmother, but was very touched by her memorial video (I started watching because my Mom was a Smith, so I’m always curious if I might recognize anyone, and she came from a big family)! The memorial video really touched me as it shows Mrs. Smith’s love and admiration for horses throughout her life. I was brought to tears when it showed her in her wheelchair, just days ago, interacting with her horse. What a beautiful tribute to her life. May God bless her and keep her family close.

    My deepest sympathy to family and friends! The memorial video was very good at showing her love of horses and her family , She must’ve been a great lady and lived life to the fullest.

    I always loved Aunt Jeanette, I cherished spending time at the farm with her and Uncle Bruce as a boy when we would visit Indiana. Seems I remember they would try and put up a tough exterior, but I knew better. So thankful that are together now. Sincere love and condolences. Jack L. Smith Jr

    So sorry to hear this. Lots of great memories. She told my daddy that if they got a girl’s barrel racing in Indiana, he had to get me a barrel horse. They did and he did. Start of a long disease. Loved to watch her and Arbuckle Shin. Happy Trails Cowgirl. You left a great memory.
