Facebook Twitter GoogleWe were blessed to have Nancy serve as the reading specialist at Granville Wells Elementary at Western Boone. My mother, Sue, worked with Nancy in the reading room. I was so lucky to tutor students at her home in Lebanon. She was proficient in the science of reading before Indiana rediscovered its importance in recent years. We all learned so much from her, and she continued to be my mentor when I accepted my first teaching position with her at Kiger Elementary. Because of Mrs. Walker, many students improved their reading skills because she never gave up on them! She will always be one of my heroes.

Facebook Twitter GoogleI will forever be grateful to have had Nancy in my life. She was a confident woman who defined herself as a loving wife and mother, but also as an accomplished professional woman. She encouraged me and supported me like I was one of her own kids. She helped me fill out my own college applications when I didn’t know where to start and to pick out appropriate classes. We shared rides going to IUK where she showed me the ropes of being a college student. She was full of fun (she was the only fully grown woman I knew who broke her wrist roller skating) and could host a great post-game basketball party. A force of nature, you probably didn’t want to challenge her too hard or get in her way. She made a huge difference in my life. Her memory always will be a blessing to so many.

Very sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. I have such fond memories of her. She was one of those great mom’s that was always willing to open up her house to her children’s friends. So many memories of card games in the basement in the old house as well as the year we were neighbors of hers in Chadwick. I remember being at your old house once and while shooting baskets in the backyard, managed to get a piece of Mark Hedges old car’s trim going right through my thigh…..your mom on her own took me to the hospital to get all stitched up. She was a great supporter of all you guys and a role model to many people.

Facebook Twitter GoogleBrian Steve and Nancy,
Your mother did a fantastic job of raising three overachievers. I always enjoyed her presence during high school and college hanging out at your home both downtown and then later out as my brother Paul’s neighbor. She had a fantastic sense of humor. When we head over to go canoeing on Turtle Creek with a couple cases of beer, she would joke that she knows I’m a wild man, but I’ll be good in an emergency.

Facebook Twitter GoogleI had attempted to post this last evening as well that your mother was so intelligent and so vibrant. A natural leader and the leader of a wonderful family who are dear friends of my family. You are so fortunate to have her for almost 90 years… John and Paul Osland

Facebook Twitter GoogleI had the honor to have known Nancy when she was the wonderful principal at Kiger Elementary School. She truly cared for every student and their families. I then had the fun of helping her with her Doberman. He was as ornery as Nancy was and we shared some funny stories about him. Nancy lived a full and fun loving life and was so proud of her children. She will certainly be missed. But your memories will always be with you.

Facebook Twitter GoogleI was blessed to have Nancy as my principal at Kyger. I learned so much from her. She was so dedicated to making sure every child was given the opportunity to learn no matter what it took. She cared not only about their learning, but everything that could help them. She started the clothes closet, food bank, dental for the children among a few extras where she went beyond just being an educator. She deeply cared for each student. I will never forget her CLAMSS program. It truly helped so many students. She was most definitely a delegator and I was the one she delegated to. Lol We had so many good laughs during our collaborations every Friday afternoons. I was blessed to have her as a friend outside of the school. So many things to remember about her. Her Irish temper, gold lame shoes, and one time when my husband and I went out to eat with her, she asked the waiter if he would go give her dog some water because he was in her vehicle. He did it! I wish I was able to come to visitation to say goodbye to a good friend but I am not able, so please know what a special lady she was to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. Unfortunately I had not seen her for many years, since the passing of your Dad. I always enjoyed seeing her and your Dad at all the high school sporting events. This carried on to
Purdue basketball games. Special memories. I always think of your entire family when I pass your old house close to the park. I liked it much better when it was painted green. This entire week Cathy and I are in Florida, that’s the only reason I’m unable to be there today and tomorrow. My thoughts will be with all of you.

Facebook Twitter GoogleTo Vickie, Steve and Brian,
Sorry to hear about your mom. She was always so nice to me, living just one street over I spent a lot of time at your house. She even helped me out sometimes with my homework questions.
She was a great cheerleader of all three of you!
RIP Mrs. Walker
