Melvin L. “Mel” Reed, 84, of Frankfort, Ind., died January 3, 2024 at his home. He was born May 30, 1939 in Frankfort, Ind. to Ura Sylvester & Bertha Lucille (Jones) Reed. He married Shirley Hanna on October 7, 1961 in Frankfort and she survives.
Mel was a 1957 graduate of Frankfort High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1957-1960 in Okinawa, Japan, then in the Marine reserves from 1960-1963. He worked for the Nickle Plate Railroad in Frankfort, Southern Pacific in California then Union Pacific for a total of 37 years. Mel enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing guitar and riding his Harley.
Visitation and Services
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Philip Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Buntin Cemetery.

his wife, Shirley Reed and several nieces & nephews.

his parents, brothers Marvin Reed and infant Hubert Reed.

So sorry to hear about Mel. I always loved you guys coming over and playing cards with Mom and Dad. I am sure I was a little nuisance around the card table but you and Mel were always so nice to me. You even put my hair in a “palm tree” on top of my head!!! Again, so sorry for your loss. I hope he can now rest peacefully.
