My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Mr. Lawson touched all of us who were his students in Culver. He is one of those teachers one never forgets. His high ideals for himself and others have carried through with all of us, all of these years. He will be sorely missed. What a great example on how to lead ones’ life.

Sad to hear this. He is remembered well in my heart. He was the best whistler I ever knew and I will never forget the delightful smell of piped tobacco when I hugged him as a child. He was a wonderful man and will be a blessed addition in heaven for Uncle Larry. Sending so much love and prayers during this time.

  9. Janet Lyon November 16, 2016 at 9:14 pm

May God give you comfort in your time of sorrow. We just had our 50th class reunion last summer, and I still think of Mr. Lawson once in awhile when I see how much students today and even our own children needed civics class in school to understand government. I thought very highly of Mr. Lawson as a teacher and remember him fondly. Janet Lyon formerly Janet Manchester.

Dear Kelly and Dan, Abby and James, and family
We were so saddened to hear of Latham’s passing. We were privileged to call him “friend”. Although short in stature, he was a giant in integrity, wisdom and compassion. I shall always remember the Sunday when I had to inform Latham at the last minute that Mark was too ill to preach, and the Worship service would have to go on without him. Latham calmly announced that we would have a Singspiration, and he presided over the service as worship leader. And he did a fine job, too. It was at that service that Marie Newman volunteered to do her first children’s sermon about the virtues of Abraham Lincoln…after 22 minutes of her discourse the children (and the adults) were nervously wiggling in their seats, and no one knew what to do. Latham politely escorted her off the altar, all the time thanking her for her “fine” story. I was so relieved, as was the entire congregation. And who could forget the Administrative Board meetings, when Latham waxed eloquently on one subject or another, often while lying on the Parlor carpet! He was a “character” to say the least, but a dear beloved character who shall not be forgotten. You have our deepest sympathy in his passing. May God hold you close and give you comfort.
