Joseph H. “Joe” Townsend, 99, of rural Frankfort, died May 1, 2022 at his home.  He was born March 29, 1923 in Tipton, Ind. to Shelby & Sylvia (Gordon) Townsend.  He married Mary Timmons on September 8, 1947 and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2020.

Joe was a graduate of Prairie Township School.  He was a lifelong farmer.  He was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church.  Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 12 Noon-2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park.

Survived by:

a son: Don (Sue) Townsend of rural Frankfort, a daughter: Debbie (Bill) Winchester of rural Frankfort, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Preceded by:

brother, Charles Townsend, and 2 sisters, Anna Mae Townsend and Rosemary Leckrone, brother-in-law, Howard Leckrone and sister-in-law, Hazel Townsend.

    It still doesn’t feel real that you’re gone. You’ve been through so much and Nana thought it was time to bring you home to her. She held her hand out at those heavenly gates so you wouldn’t walk through alone. That thought makes me smile knowing you’re together again and makes it easier to deal with. I love you Papaw and I will miss you. Until I see you again.
