James N. Ploughe, 89, of rural Kirklin, Ind., died August 4, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis, Ind.  He was born May 14, 1931 in Pickard, Ind. to Preston A. and Bessie (Douglas) Ploughe.  He married Evelyn B. Cocheran on July 29, 1960 in Kirklin and she survives.

James was a 1949 graduate of Sugar Creek High School.  A veteran of the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War and served in Berlin.  He worked in maintenance at Chrysler for 36 years, retiring in 1990.  James was a member of the Kirklin American Legion, Post 310.  He collected coins and enjoyed auctions, Euchre, and family get togethers.

Memorial donations may be made to Kirklin American Legion, Post 310, P.O. Box 217, Kirklin, IN  46050.

Visitation and Services

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main Street, Frankfort.  Friends may visit Noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.  Pastor Karl Kercheval will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kirklin, Ind.  Out of respect for the health, safety, and comfort of all in attendance, guests will be expected to adhere to current CDC guidelines regarding appropriate social distancing and the wearing of masks.

He is survived by his Wife: Evelyn B. Ploughe of rural Kirklin; Daughters: Patricia Parks of Michigantown and Judith Lynn (Rick) Lashbrook of Frankfort; Son: Norman Lee (Kelli) Ploughe of Michigantown; Brother: Dale (Arlene) Ploughe of rural Frankfort; 2 Sisters: Dortha Thompson of Brookston and Norma Macis of Austin, Texas; 6 Grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 5 brothers: Preston W., Ralph D., Thomas R., William H., and Joseph E. and 6 sisters: Lois E. Boone, Mabel D. Sotzing, Vera M. King, Verna G. Reddish, Mary D. Walker, and Margie A. Ploughe.

    Grandma Ploughe, Mom, Aunt Judy, and Uncle Norman, and Uncle Rick.

    This day has come too soon. We have all experienced something rare together. The Loving example of what a man should be. There will never be someone so quiet, but who said so much. There will also never be a man who graduated in the top 10, of a Graduating class of 8. Did he ever not have something funny to say? He had a strength only matched by Grandma. How did we get so lucky? He held on until after his 60th Wedding Anniversary just to be with her, one more year. He was proud of counting those years. He may be leaving us, but I bet when we join him, He will have plenty of sticks for all of us to pick up!

    After viewing the video, it is evident that James Ploughe had a life well lived. Evelyn, you were a loving wife and mother. The pictures in the hospital looks like your family was vigilant in caring for him. It seems that he enjoyed eating out. Also, he seemed to be playful with his cats. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry for your loss.

    I love all of you and have so many beautiful memories! I am so sorry. I have been through to many of these, lost my oldest granddaughter almost 2 yrs ago, please forgive me for not coming over! All my LOVE!

    Grandma, Mom, Aunt Patty and Uncle Norman, I’m so sorry about papaws passing. He sure was a man of few words but a man that loved everyone and we knew it. He will be missed by so many and loved by us all. Rest easy papaw we love you and will miss you always.
