James L. Brown

James L. Brown, 94, of Frankfort, died February 7, 2021 at Wesley Manor.  Jim was born February 6, 1927 in Clinton County to the late Zinn & Mary (Laughner) Brown Biesecker.  In April of 1949 he married Bonnie Catron.

Jim was a graduate of Frankfort High School and attended Tampa Watchmaker School.  He was a watchmaker and co-owner of J & D Jewelry Store, in Frankfort, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, during WWII and served from 1945-1947. Jim served on the Frankfort City Council from 1964-1968 then he was elected Mayor of the City of Frankfort, serving until 1972.  He was a member of the Moose, VFW, American Legion and the former Frankfort Country Club.

Jim was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed playing in the Moose Golf League for several years with his grandson Ryan. Other interests include dancing, karaoke, ping pong and playing cards. He also enjoyed spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Visitation and Services

During the current climate, we encourage family and friends to memorialize Jim in their own way. (bowl of chili, bag of popcorn, or a cold beer) An opportunity for sharing and fellowship may be planned in the future. Memorial donations in honor of Jim may be made to the Moose Lodge #7, 2880 E. Wabash St., Frankfort, IN 46041 or The Frankfort VFW, 309 N. Main St., Frankfort, IN 46041.

Surviving Jim are his loving companion, Rose Austin of Frankfort, daughter: Jami Bell of Frankfort, 2 Grandchildren: Ryan (wife Jennifer) Bell of Brownsburg and Alyssa Bell of Philadelphia, PA., two great grandchildren, Kyler & Quinn Bell at home with parents, Ryan and Jennifer.

    The family of Jim Brown and Rose, Our deepest condolences on the death of Jim, we were neighbors in Melody Gardens, Florida. And spent many days whether golfing with Vic and the park or singing at karaoke. He was a great dancer. We missed him and Rose after they left the park. Our deepest condolences.     Sorry for your loss sending prayers and hugs. Jim was such a sweet man always had a smile, Kenny enjoyed playing cards with him at the Village Pantry out by the senior high school.

    I was so saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. He was a very nice man and we enjoyed having a lot of dinners with him and Rose at the American Legion. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

    My condolences to Rose, and to Jim’s family. I met Jim in Melody Gardens, when he spent winters there. He was always such a friendly man, and as luck would have it he carried a spare battery for my watch. Always grateful for his help. Take care of your self Rose.
