Hazel Mink Steckel

Hazel Mink Steckel, 100, of Frankfort, died Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.  She was born April 8, 1919 in Boswell, Ind. to Clarence Stacey and Nora Ann (Callaway) Mink.  She married Charles Max Steckel on December 17, 1944 in Tipton, Ind. and he preceded her in death on January 22, 1996.

Hazel was a 1937 graduate of Tipton High School.  She lived in Indianapolis for 53 years and moved to Frankfort in 1998.  She worked for the Tipton Telephone Company, Oakes Manufacturing Company in Tipton for 23 years, Standard Oil of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Public Schools for 23 years.  She retired in 1986.  She was a member of Phi Beta Psi, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Murat, and First Christian Church in Frankfort.  She enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing the piano.

Memorials may be made to Guardian Angel Hospice.

Visitation and Services

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main Street, Frankfort.  Pastor Deborah Musick will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

She is survived by her Close friends and caretakers:  Jane Edgar, Marty Frye, Beth Wheeler, Lori Roth, Janet Culross, Ina Cook, and Joy Lanum; Nieces:  Jo Ayres of Hawaii and Cynthia Mink of Michigan, Nephews: Steve Mink of Indiana and Bob Mink of Arizona; as well as 4 great Nieces, 1 great nephew, and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.  

Preceded by:

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Harold “Bud” Mink; sister: Mildred Marie Ramey; nephews: Mike Ramey and Tom Mink along with her great nephew: Brian Mink.
