I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. Mr. Scofield was a fine man and teacher. He was my 8th grade English Teacher in 1978-79. I am now a teacher and believe that he influenced me greatly by the passion that he shared with us through his teaching. I am honored to have been taught by him and to have known him. I hope that you are able to find strength and peace at this time. He will be missed and always remembered!

  3. Fred McCarter December 15, 2009 at 11:03 pm

My name is Fred McCarter. I’m graduated from CCHS in 1983. Greg was my 8th Grade English teacher. He was one of my favorite teachers of all time. He opened my eyes to the fact that I was a good writer. He probably never knew it, but I was a newspaper reporter and editor for 12 years. I was an award winning reporter. He helped make the writer I am! … I’ve been a corporate media relations (lots of writing) director and I’ve been the Executive Director of a community foundation in Southeastern Indiana (near Cincinnati) for the last five years. I learned of Greg’s passing from one of my nephews who was one of Greg’s students too. I rarely check my Facebook account, but did this week. There are so many CC students that are speaking out about the impact Greg had on their lives. There are many young people he inspired to become teachers. I know they are good teachers. I’m 45 now. Not much younger than your husband, father, brother or son, Greg. … I never really kept in touch with him over the years, but saw him once in a while when I was in town from my home in Cincinnati. The last time I saw him (a year or so ago), I think he was with Andy Robertson working in the concession stand at a ballgame. Greg was working hard! … I want you to know that he really made an impact on a lot of people. You all should be very very proud of his legacy. I guarantee you that I will work harder in my life to be more like Greg, Mr. Scofield. … May God bless you all and comfort you in this time of loss. You will be in my prayers. … By the way, I was the class clown of the Class of ’83. I can’t resist telling you all that I got the biggest laugh once in class when Greg was explaining diagramming sentences to me. The class was really loud and he let a four-letter word slip out of his mouth. He realized no one heard it but me. He simply turned his head toward me and smiled and said “you didn’t hear that did you?” … Of course, he knew I did. All I could think, as an 8th grader was how cool he was to let one slip and still keep his calm. I feel fortunate to know him for just a while. God Bless!

Greg was a great friend. I talked to him almost every morning, at lunch, and after school. Each morning when I arrived at Clinton Central I would see his white truck already parked in his normal parking space. He was always so positive about his students and about his plans for the future. Greg lived life to the fullest. I miss him and school will not be the same with him gone.

  7. Greg Garrett December 16, 2009 at 10:39 am

My deepest condolences to Greg’s family and friends. I rented an apartment from Greg in the mid 90’s. I also knew Greg during my time as Sports Director at WILO/Shine 99. Greg would come to the Jim Dandy restaurant occasionally on Saturday mornings and have breakfast with myself and the county coaches during The Coaches Den Show. I also chatted with Greg when I was broadcasting games at Clinton Central and the other area schools when he was in attendance. Greg was a very nice man and a good landlord. I enjoyed the times we spent talking. My heart felt prayers go out to Greg’s family and friends along with my deepest condolences.
    Greg Garrett.

To the family of Mr. Scofield.
He was an amazing teacher, and an amazing human being in all. I just want to let all of you know that he touched my life in such a huge way. I have so many story’s to share with my family to be about my favorite teacher in high school. Fortunately enough my younger brother knows how great he was, and was blessed to have had him in class. I am only 20 years old and graduated only a short time ago. But if it were not for Mr. Scofield I know that I would not be the woman I am today. God Bless you all and I am keeping every single one of you in my prayers.

    Dear Family,
I am the shot put and discus coach at Avon High School. As you know throwers and throwing coaches are a brotherhood. Greg and I always had some great talks at the track meets about our kids, throwing and how handsome graduates are from the University of Indianapolis. Some people live their entire lives and never really make a difference. Greg touched a lot of lives and we thank you for sharing him with us. God Bless

  23. Katie Greeman Deboy December 16, 2009 at 5:46 pm

    Dear Scofield Family,
I want to first start off with a heart felt condolence in your time of sorrow. Mr. Scofield was my 8th grade English teacher and then I was his student helper when I was a sophomore. I also had the pleasure of working with your son, Michael, at Frankfort when I was employed there. Greg was an awesome guy and teacher. He made learning English fun and because the interaction I had with him as a teacher I too developed a love for teaching English. I am now a sixth grade English teacher and enjoy my job just like Greg did his. What Clinton Centrals lost, God has gained. Rest in peace Sco, you were a great man.
    Katie Greeman Deboy

  25. Larry Sparks December 16, 2009 at 8:16 pm

    Dear Denise and Family,

I was shocked to hear of Greg’s passing. He and I roomed together in college for parts of three different years. He was such a good person and I am especially sad that we have not been in touch since college. We had a lot of fun and I am sure he was a better influence on me than I was on him. I have thought of him often as I frequently pass by Clinton Central as I travel north to visit my family. If anyone reading this has a friend you have lost touch and from time to time think about making the effort to reconnect, do it immediately. I am truly sorry for your loss and regretful that I did not reconnect wtih Greg. May God Bless you and keep you during this difficult time.

  38. Ayo (PT) & Dupe December 19, 2009 at 10:57 am

This is Ayo (PT) and Dupe it was so sad to hear about your husband. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept our sincere sympathy. We can take comfort in knowing that our dead loved ones are resting according to John 11:11 with no pain and waiting for the day when they will be awakened from their deep sleep. What a great day to look forward to. Another promise that is worth waiting for is in John 5:28,29 that says in part “Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. What strength and comfort we can draw from knowledge of the resurrection hope! Meanwhile, we know that God is the God of all comfort and I hope that He will comfort your entire family during this difficult time of yours. Once again, please accept our deepest sympathy and have a blessed day.
