Garth “Uncle Lee” Hedge 77, passed away, July 29, 2014 at 3:15 p.m. at his home. He was surrounded by many loving family members and friends. He was born in Frankfort on August 19, 1936 to Cleo Clifford Hedge & Velma (Randalls) Hedge. He was raised by his great aunt & uncle, Mark and Mattie Booher, after the passing of his mother when he was 18 months old. He attended schools in Thorntown, Indiana. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1954-1957. Upon leaving the service he moved to California and worked for Pacific Gas & Electric. While in California he drove for NASCAR Stock Car Hobby racing and still has his original license and pin from 1962. He then worked at Exide Battery in Frankfort for 34 ½ years, retiring in 1998. He was an avid country music lover and played music for 60 years with several bands. The last several years, he played with the StoneCreek Band. Music and family were his life.
Visitation and Services
Visitation will be Friday, August 1st from 3-7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 2nd at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Scott Cemetery, Scircleville. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Garth married the former Patty Click on October 17, 1964 at the First Nazarene Church in Frankfort. They have a son, Toby (Rhonda) Hedge of Frankfort, daughter, Penny Hedge of Frankfort, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had many nieces and nephews who were all special to him. A brother, Harley Hedge of Kokomo and two sisters, Nancy Strange and Phyllis Green both of Indianapolis survive him. Also surviving are a son, Alan Patterson of Tennessee and two daughters, Carol Thorn of Tennessee and Cheryl Snider of Morgantown, from a previous marriage.

I am sadden to hear of Uncle Lee’s passing. I enjoyed the times I came home and was able to see everyone. Uncle Lee would always ask me to move back home to play music with him and you, Pat. He will be missed by so many. So sorry I will not be there to support you all.

I have never heard him ever talk bad about any one. And he would give you his last dime if he thought you needed it. I am so proud to be able to say that he is my uncle.
