Nancy and family, so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. My memory of him and your mother is that when I was about 14 or so I thought I would walk to Dena’s. They came along and offered me a ride and I was happy to take it, Carol

  2. Michell Anyaka, LPN May 2, 2014 at 3:36 am

To the entire Crum family, Please accept my condolences. I don’t even know what brought me to this website tonight, but know it was a real shock to read this. I don’t know how I will make it through my weekend without Ed saying, with his smile “Oh No, here she comes, she has them rusty needles again.” As you all know, I became really close to Ed, something I promised myself I would never do with any of my residents, but Ed just had something about him that drew me into him. Maybe his wonderful smile, his daily jokes or his upbeat mentality about life itself. I really don’t know what it was. Please know he will forever remain in my memory as so will all of you. You all have been such a wonderful family and only inspire me to be there for my dad the way all of you were there for yours. May you all find peace and happiness as you move forward. Please stop in and see me on the weekends every now and then, as you all and Ed will truly be missed. Thank you for allowing me to spend Christmas dinner and oh yes his Birthday party as well with you all. Ed “Popps”, it was a pleasure to care for you. You will forever remain in my memory and will forever be missed by many, now go ENJOY your eternal life with our eternal father. No more PAIN, SICKNESS and oh YA! RUSTY NEEDLES. FOREVER A friend and caregiver, Michell Anyaka, LPN

    Dear Family,
My sympathy to you all. So glad my Mom (Louise Ostler) and your Dads paths crossed at Wesley Manor. What a sweet spirit your Dad was – especially to Aunt Eunice! She looked forward to his visits so much and would just beam when she would talk about her “newspaper man”! (He would share his Frankfort Newspaper with her after he read it.) Also, he was always so happy and friendly to me when I was there visiting Mother. I also enjoyed reconnecting with your family again after all those years ago in 4-H and MYF. Your Dad was a jewel and will be greatly missed down here, but is rejoicing with the angels in Heaven!

    • Phil & Gloria Crum May 3, 2014 at 1:45 pm

      Jerilyn,

Thank you for all the kind words and sharing the beautiful memories. Needless to say we reflect often the days of the past when we were “growing up” as friends and neighbors.

      Thanks again,
      Phil

    To Phil, Shirley and Nancy,
We are so very sorry to hear of Ed ‘s death. He was such a very nice man. He was our neighbor for 26 years and we could not have asked for a better neighbor, he and Larry spent many a day talking and if we didn’t see him out, Larry would go over and check on him to make sure he was ok. We sure missed him when he moved to the Manor. Our sympathy goes out to all the family. Ed will be so greatly missed.

    • Nancy May 3, 2014 at 6:42 pm

Larry and Judy, thank you for being wonderful neighbors and a friend to Dad. He always enjoyed your visits at the Manor too.

  14. Jo Ellen Ogle May 5, 2014 at 1:03 am

Edwin was so sweet to me and to everyone. He and Nova always made me feel at home when we were kids, Nancy. I remember when he “listened in” on a phone conversation between you and Pauletta. I think you got in some trouble, didn’t you? He was a happy man and well loved. I don’t know if you can ask for more from life. It will be hard for you – especially missing those trips to the Manor to see him and take care of him. I’m sure he is smiling down on all of you and taking Nova and Evelyn by the arms and saying, “Well, ladies, shall we?” And walking off into the sunset. Praying blessings on you all, Jo

To the entire family: I have to say that Grandpa Crum had the kindest eyes of anyone I’ve ever met — so it goes without saying that his smile really did light up a room, and he naturally made everyone around him feel warm and welcome. He was a gentleman of the first order, and I consider it a blessing to have known him; Diana and I have your family in our thoughts and prayers —
