Our beloved wife and mother, Deborah G. Fisk, passed away on April 27, 2024, surrounded by her family, after a short illness. She was 70. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Brian Fisk, her children, Andrea Fisk (37) and Colin Fisk (33), and her mother, Wilma Gard (90). She will be interred with her father and ancestors at Hopewell Cemetery outside Frankfort, Indiana.
Born in 1953 to Robert and Wilma Gard, she was raised on a farm with her two sisters, Cheri Heilman and Vicki Morten. She achieved perfect attendance in elementary school, and in high school, the local newspaper frequently published her anonymous political opinion pieces. She received a scholarship to study history and political science at Purdue University, and continued on to earn her Masters of Special Education. While at university, she met her future husband, Brian, and upon graduation, moved with him to Seattle, and then to New Jersey, where they bought a house in Franklin Lakes and raised their children.
Deborah was the heart of our home and family. She was an avid reader with an insatiable appetite for learning, and she sought out volunteer organizations to become involved with. Over the years, she volunteered for local historical societies, taught Sunday, volunteered at the zoo, brought magazines and conversation to patients at Valley Hospital, and answered phones during fund drives for the local jazz radio station. Most recently, she served as the vice president for the garden club. She was a lifelong gardener and animal lover, and leaves behind a beautiful garden and several pets.
Visitation and Services
Friends and family are invited to say a final goodbye to Deborah at a graveside service, held at 11 a.m., June 8, 2024 at Hopewell Cemetery, Frankfort, Indiana. Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, is assisting the family with arrangements.
I am simply heartbroken. I worked with Debbie at the Frankfort Junior High! She was so loved and her ability to understand and work with special need children was remarkable. They loved her so much. She advocated hard for her kids!
We had the best time with our class and the memories are still with me today. To Debbie’s family, I am so very sorry to learn of her passing. She was a great friend, teacher, co-worker and an amazing teacher. I still think of her every New Years eve at midnight wondering if she seen the ball drop…

Facebook Twitter GoogleDebbie was such a special person. In elementary she was a good friend…sharing her Nancy Drew books with me every month, going in her camper to Raccoon Lake, slumber parties at her house, playing dress up with Carol Whiteman’s prom dresses. In high school she was this tiny dynamo ahead of her time in political awareness and so much fun. Just thinking of her makes me smile. I’m sure she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
