David Paul George 78, of Frankfort, died at 1:00 a.m. March 6, 2013 at Wesley Manor Health and Retirement Community. Born August 6, 1934 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO to Marcus A & Eva May (Maxwell) George and they moved to Michigantown in 1944. On July 19, 1959 he was united in marriage with Mary K. Brant and she survives. Dave was a graduate of Michigantown High School, Ball State University, University of Colorado, and attended University of Chicago and Northwestern University. He taught industrial arts and was a guidance counselor in the Denver Public Schools, was employed by Uniroyal in Joliet, IL in training and management. For the last twenty five years of his employment he was a guidance counselor and eventually department chairman of the counseling department at the Wilson Campus of the City Colleges of Chicago, retiring in December 1991. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1955-1957. Dave was active in his church memberships throughout the years with the latest being United Methodist Church of Michigantown, Indiana as a Trustee, Lay Leader, and volunteer with the food bank. He was also active in local chapter of the Gideon’s International and Jail Ministry. Dave enjoyed traveling and together he and Mary K. have visited all fifty states and most of the Canadian provinces.
Visitation and Services
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Emmett Ade will officiate the service. Burial will be in Geetingsville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Gideon’s International or United Methodist Church of Michigantown Scholarship Fund.
