Brenda Sue Smith, 70, of rural Frankfort, Ind., passed away July 20, 2024 at her home, surrounded by family.  She was born July 4, 1954 in Frankfort, Ind. to Raymond W. “Doggie” Allen and Mildred I. “Midge” (Martin) Allen Smith.  She married Bernard R. Smith on January 20, 1990 and he survives.

Brenda was a 1972 graduate of Frankfort High School.  She, along with her husband, was owner/operator of Big Fish’n Campground for 29 years.  Brenda was of the Christian Faith and a member of the GWRRA.  She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, riding motorcycles, and loved the beach. Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, loved her family and was a friend to many. Everyone who knew Brenda, loved her.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Burial at a later date will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Paw Pals, P.O. Box 124, Frankfort, IN 46041.

Husband: Bernard Ray Smith of rural Frankfort, 3 Daughters: Jennifer Kay (Damien) King of Frankfort, Kelly Beth Coffman of Indianapolis, Kayla Rose (Ross) McWhirt of Frankfort, Son: Nathan Allen (Sara) Smith of Godfrey, IL, Brothers: Jeff (Lorraine) Allen of Antioch, Steven (Casey) Allen of Frankfort, Sisters: Debbie (Matt) Herring of Frankfort, Tammy (Todd) Lucas of Mulberry, and 8 Grandchildren.

    BFB (Brenda from Big Fish) was a very special mother-figure in my life. While it saddens me to say goodbye, I have so many beautiful (and comical) memories of my time with her that I will forever carry with me. May her spirit be a rest with Christ, yet also continue to bring those who love her together to share of her great time with us here on earth.

    I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, Jenny and Kelly. My heart is breaking for you both. I spent a lot of time at your house as a child, your mom was always kind, funny and had great taste in music! I appreciate everything she did for me and all the good times she let me be apart of.     Brenda was such a beautiful person. She was so loving. She made us all feel like family. My mom and dad loved her very much. Now she is up there with my dad, them both smiling down at us. we will see them again.

    I’m so sorry to hear about Brenda’s passing, because of my sickness I wasn’t able to be there, I’ve been remembering the funny conversations we used to have and she always had a friendly greeting, she will be missed by so many. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

    I am shocked to hear of Brenda’s passing. Brenda, Jeff, Debbie and Steve were a big part of my life growing up on Green Street. Climbing on Ray’s Grandma cookie boxes, driving Midge crazy and just having a great childhood.
