Betty P. Lashbrook, 84, of Frankfort, IN, passed away at Brownsburg Health Care Center, on Friday, December 27, 2013, after an extended illness.
Betty, or “Gram” as she came to be known to all of us, was born on March 30, 1929, in Hammond, IN, to Frank and Grace (Kaser) Pickering. She was one of seven children born in the Depression era; she was reared by her mother’s sister, Opal and Tom Vinard, from the time she was four years old.
She graduated from Frankfort High School and worked at Bakers Shoes, Alexander’s Shoe Store, Woolworth’s, and Bon Merritt’s before marrying William Lewis Lashbrook on May 17, 1947, in the Baptist Church parsonage. She was employed by Mallory’s for many years and once retired, enjoyed homemaking, baking and doting on her five grandchildren, Ryan & Gary Lewis, Jill Higbie, Lana Greene, and Leah Bradley.
Betty and Bill had lived in Jefferson, IN for many years and were members of the Jefferson United Brethren Church until Betty, widowed in 1998, moved to Wilshire Court Apartments in 2000. Betty’s church membership was then transferred to St. Matthew United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the sermons and music every Sunday until her physical decline prevented attendance. She was a woman of strong faith in God, home and family her entire life.
Bill and Betty enjoyed hosting family gatherings and New Year’s Eve parties’ throughout their married life for their family and friends. The Lashbrooks’ basement became a lively venue for some extremely competitive Ping-Pong and Pool competitions while the ladies played scrabble in the kitchen upstairs. The best part, of course, was anticipating Betty’s scrumptious desserts!

Visitation and Services

Visitation for Betty will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Goodwin Funeral Home from 1-3 p.m. The service will follow the visiting at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Frankfort.

Surviving Betty are three children, Linda (Leon) Gottfried of Brownsburg, IN, Mrs. Dave (Pamela) Davis of Kokomo, IN and Joe (Rose) Lashbrook of Frankfort, IN, also a sister, Beverly Virtue of Casselberry, FL. Betty was blessed with five grandchildren, Ryan & Gary Lewis, Jill Higbie, Lana Greene, and Leah Bradley. Along with ten precious great grandchildren: Brandon, Adam and Olivia Green, Alec and Ashlyn Bradley, Danielle and Dylan Lewis and Halle, Holden and Heide Higbie.
