Betty J. Shaffer, 100, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at Milner Community Health Care. Betty was born in Indianapolis on February 15, 1924 to Orville and Sylvia (Cook) Townsley. She married Cortez R. Shaffer, Jr. on September 25, 1942, after graduating from Arsenal Tech High School in June.
She worked during World War II, but became a stay-at-home mother upon the birth of her first child.
Enjoying travel, crafts, and reading, Betty never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to new people.
Visitation and Services
Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Shirley Brothers Funeral Home, 9606 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Funeral services will be immediately thereafter. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Betty is survived by her son, Robert M. Shaffer, grandchildren, Michael (Connie) T. Shaffer, Cynthia (Justin) S. Long, Susan (Todd) S. Jones, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded by:
Her husband predeceased her on March 5, 1997, along with a daughter, Linda D. Sannita in 1986, daughter-in-law, Carol A. Shaffer in 2020, granddaughter, Jennifer (Matt) S. O’Donnell in 2020 and sister, Carolyn Pond.
