Thomas L. Ayres

Thomas L. “Tom” Ayres passed away at his home on August 16, 2010 from kidney, brain and lung cancer. He was born June 16, 1935 in Frankfort to the late George and Lucille Ayres. He attended Frankfort Senior High School, where he was active in sports and played basketball his junior and senior year. In 1956 he married Mary F. Johnson and they had 2 children, Thomas L. (Tye) Ayres Jr. of Frankfort and Lucinda M. “Cindy” (Daniel) McDonald of Kokomo. They later divorced. Tom is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He later married Helen Simmons and she preceded him in death as well as daughter, Cindy McDonald, granddaughter, Angel Ayres and a sister, Virginia Irwin. In Kokomo he became a Pro-Bowler for over 20 years. He retired from Chrysler and moved to Delong, IN for the summer and Zolfo Spring, FL in the winter. After retirement Tom became a senior golf pro. In his past times Tom was an avid fisherman, enjoyed fishing in Canada, playing with his dog and watching Westerns

Visitation and Services

No services are planned. As per Tom’s request, his body was donated to IU Medical Center for cancer research. The family has requested that donations be made in Tom’s name to any cancer research organization.

    I wish to express my condolences to the family. I was a classmate of Tom’s at FHS class of 1954.

    I am sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. I was also not aware that Cindy McDonald had passed. Kema or Danielle or Jerimiah or Dan could you email me as I worked with your mom at the Gold Rush.

    We were classmates of Tom’s at FHS and were very sorry to hear of his passing. The class is making a contribution in his memory to the IU Foundation for Lung Cancer Research.
