Shirley M. Goens

Shirley M. Goens, 85, of Kenton passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton. She was born on July 13, 1929 in Rankin, Illinois to the late Joel and Gladys (Falver) Traylor. On August 29, 1953, she married Robert Goens and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2000.  Shirley was a 1947 graduate of Frankfort High School in Indiana. She
earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Butler University.  She retired as an elementary school teacher after teaching in Indiana, Ohio and Florida. She also worked for the IRS as a tax auditor. Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church in Kenton, the Carmel, Indiana, Order of the Eastern Star, Kenton Moose Family Center #428, and Kenton Elks Lodge #157. She was a dedicated teacher and enjoyed spending her free time in the kitchen and traveling the world with her husband Bob.

Visitation and Services

Funeral services for Shirley M. Goens will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Dave Dooley officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort, Indiana. Goodwin Funeral Home will be conducting the graveside service.

Survived by:

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Michaele (Mike) McPeek of Bellevue, Ohio and Joelene (George) Geranios of Round Rock, Texas; her granddaughter, Chelsea McPeek of Columbus, Ohio; and 1 niece and 2 nephews from Frankfort, IN.

Preceded by:

her son, Benson F. Goens and sisters, Isabelle Rynerson and Hildred Laughner.
