Robert “Jack” Ward

August 21, 2010

My Dear Father, Robert “Jack” Ward, passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, August 21, 2010. Jack was born in Frankfort, IN on May 22, 1930 and was the only child of Otto and Estelle Ward. He joined the Air Force and then came back to Frankfort and went to work as a mechanic at the Cigar Factory, where he met Shelia Kriel. After a three month courtship, they were married on December 24, 1954. He soon worked his way up to be the Lead Project Engineer at RMC in Attica where he had many accomplishments, including two patents. Jack eventually left RMC and went to work as an Engineer for Schwaab Safe in Lafayette, IN. Later in life Jack went on to attend Purdue University and eventually taught drafting at Ivy Tech. After his retirement he became an associate of Wal-Mart in Fishers, IN until 2005.

    Our dearest friend Cindy,
There are no words that we can say to express how sorry we are to hear about your loss. We know how hard it is to lose such a wonderful father. All we can say is remember the good times and write down the stories that he told you when you were young so you can share with your grandchildren. They will cherish all the memories that you can provide to them since they will only have their own memories and will never be able to know all about them at their young age. Please let your Mom know that we are thinking of her and we will keep your family in our prayers. We know how much you value your parent’s. Always know that they love you very much. Please let us know if you all need anything, we are just a quick phone call away.
    Love,
    Linda and Hilary

    Shelia & Cindy,
I don’t really know you Cindy, but, I have known Shelia all my life. I am so sorry for your loss. Jack will be missed by all that knew him.
We all came from the same humble backgrounds. We were both mistreated in school by Mr. Herb Brambel. I enjoyed so much talking to Jack about his experiences with that man. We were in a parallel universe together on that one. (He had 6 years on me).
Jack was so much fun to be around. I know this is going to leave an empty place in your lives, always. I will have a cold one for Jack tonight, and maybe on a few other nights too.
    Boyd

I am so sorry we could not make the trip this weekend to celebrate Grandpa Jack’s life. We are thinking about all of you today and missing you as well. I wish I would have been able to know the Jack that Tyler remembers so fondly! He made such an impact on his life. We cherish the photos we have of him playing with Aubrie and Brett! Stay strong and give Shelia (and my Tyler while you have him there) a big hug for us!

    Dear Gramps,
I didn’t get to say what I wanted at your service. Sometimes those kind of emotions are just too private. It was just me and you for the longest. So many people say that you were like a father to them, but I got to experience what that truly meant. I tried to put on such a strong face for everyone there, but you will be the only one to know how truly hurt I am that I can no longer hear your voice, see your smile, or just watch you fiddle around at your work bench. You were my best friend, and I loved you so much. As I sit down to write this, your great grandson Brett, is showing me a lego stack he built for me. It pains me that you won’t get to know him as you knew me. I don’t know if I’ll ever get over losing you, but I do know you’ll always be there, and I’ll always know how much you loved me. I miss you Grandpa, and will always wish I had just one more day, minute, second with you.
    Ty
