Merrill M. Spencer, 91, of Frankfort, Ind., died October 28, 2018 at I.U. Health Frankfort Hospital.  He was born May 2, 1927 in Kingswood, KY to Oran W. & Sadie Mae (Willett) Spencer.

A 1946 graduate of Frankfort Pilgrim High School and attended the Frankfort Pilgrim College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1948-1952.   For 20 years, he owned and operated the Spencer Barber Shop.  He also worked in home remodeling and then retired as an electrician and carpenter for Risse Builders.  He was a member of the Victory Chapel in Frankfort.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be Noon-3 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at Victory Chapel Church, 196 S. West St., Frankfort. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in Bunnell Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Victory Chapel Church.

2 Daughters: Sandra Kincaid of New Castle, IN, Cathy Simms of Tipton, IN, 2 Sisters: Rebecca Ficklin of Clarksville, TN, Grace Dupin of Kernerville, NC, Brother: Willis Spencer of Robards, KY, Special Adopted Family: James & Glenda (Smith) Barnard and their children, Martin, Mildred, Micah, Jonelle, Merilee and Mercy, 6 grandchildren, 6 adopted grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 9 adopted great grandchildren.

Preceded by:

He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Margaret Cook, Bertha Hensley and Agnes Crecelius.

    So sorry to hear of Merrill’s passing. He was as fine a Christian man as I ever met. My condolences to the family.

    Brother Merrill received his promotion and heard the words “well done, enter into the joys of thy Lord” We are sure gonna miss him out at the old pilgrim camp. But we know this is not good bye, just a see you soon! What rejoicing there must be in glory even now, another saint was safely led to shore by our Lord Jesus, praise God! Oh death, where is thy sting? Oh grave, where is thy victory?

    I worked with Merrill at Risse Builders back in the 80’s and early 90’s. He was always such a kind, gentle and thoughtful man. He lived out his faith everyday even around the crude and boorish crowd that construction men could be. He refused to return the ridicule to others that he endured. After I left Risse and went out on my own I still hired him to do electrical work for some of my projects. He was just a wonderful example of what a Christian should be. I haven’t seen him in a couple of years, but he will be missed. I’m sure he is rejoicing in heaven with no more pain and sorrow.

    So sorry to hear of his passing. Evidently a fine Christian man. He cut me and my brothers hair about 1955. We got in trouble in his Frankfort shop by playing with the shaving cream machine. We got it all over the barber chair. He had left us alone for some reason and came back to a mess. Dad gave us a good whipping. Dad owned the Twin Gables restaurant next door. Blessings to you friend from long ago.
