Margaret Elizabeth Gibbs

Margaret Elizabeth Gibbs 91, of Frankfort, IN died on April 18, 2009 at 5:20 pm, in St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital. She was born on May 23, 1917 in Frankfort, the daughter of Ernest A. and Jennie M. (Dunk) Black. She married Robert S. Gibbs on December 20, 1940 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1992. Margaret was a lifelong Educator. She taught at Stockwell and Clarks Hill Consolidation, Bowers, Colfax and Clinton Prairie High Schools before serving as a guidance director at Frankfort and Carroll High Schools. She retired in 1979 after 41 years in education. She received her BA degree in education from Central Normal College in 1938, her MA from Purdue University in 1961 and obtained her E.D.S. degree from Purdue in 1968. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort. Memberships included the Clinton County, State and National Retired Teachers Associations, the Jefferson Order of the Eastern Star, Indiana Guidance and Personnel Association, Sigma Phi Kappa Delta Honorary Scholastic Fraternity, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a Life Membership of the Purdue Alumni Association.

Visitation and Services

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Tom Jameson officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to: Frankfort Education Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.

13 Great Grandchildren and 4 Step Great Grandchildren also survive.
