Jeffery L. Moon

October 3, 2018

Jeffery L. Moon, 72, of Frankfort, died unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday evening, October 3, 2018.  He was born on January 9, 1946 in Frankfort to Hollys E. and Thelma I. (Brammell) Moon.  He married Elaine R. Peterson on June 16, 1968 in Jasonville, Indiana and she survives.

Jeff was a 1964 graduate of Frankfort High School and a 1968 graduate of Wabash College and then earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.  He worked in various city governments in Illinois and Missouri and in administration with Ivy Tech, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Jeff also taught Math and Social Studies in numerous area schools.  He was on the board of directors for the Red Barn Summer Theatre, coached Boy’s Club basketball, and refereed and umpired.  He loved reading, woodworking, photography, fishing (sitting by the water) and adventures with his great nieces and nephews.

If anyone wishes to honor Jeff’s memory with a gift, a donation to the Red Bard Summer Theatre would be appreciated.

Coach Moon was one of the good guys. He had a heart of gold. I remember him coaching our basketball team at the old boys club, always preaching to us to do our best. He always told me I was one of the best, but I think he was just being nice to me. Thank you for having a great impact on my life, you will be missed sir. Sorry for your loss Aaron, Christina and I send our sincere condolences.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Jeff. I went through Junior and Senior High with him and remember him always ready to see the humor in things and also that he was so bright. Of course, peaceful hearts to all, Jeff included.

  23. Lane Ayres October 10, 2018 at 11:00 pm

From Boy Scout Troop 338 through high school Jeff was a friend and a good soul. I moved to Minneapolis over 45 years ago but would often run into Jeff when back home. I always enjoyed him and his emphasis on helping others, especially youth. I’m sure many many people are better because of their interactions with Jeff. I know I am. I’m sorry he passed away so suddenly and at our not-so-old age. Blessings to the family.

I am very sad to hear this news. Jeff was a good friend for many years, even though we didn’t see each other anywhere near often enough. I have to say I have never known with as deep a well of common sense that Jeff had. He was knowledgeable and an especially logical thinker. He was also such a kind and compassionate person, that the world has lost someone valuable. I know that I will miss him simply because his presence was reassuring.

Sending prayers to Jeff’s family. Known Jeff since high school and always made you laugh. He will be missed

So very sad to hear of Mr. Moon’s passing. He was always so funny and kind when I was growing up. Whenever he subbed at FHS, you just knew it was going to be a great day! My sincere condolences to the family.

I am so sad to hear. Jeff was a classmate at Wabash, a very good man, and we got closer in the last 12 years or so, when I was able to contact him as the class agent. I know he was totally into his career in education and loved every aspect. And loved his family. The world is a lesser place.
