James R. Affolter

James R. Affolter 80, died Monday June 19, 2017 at the Clinton House in Frankfort, IN. He was born on August 6, 1936 in New Philadelphia, Ohio to Homer Ronald Affolter and Olive (Metzger) Affolter. He married Hazel D. (Scott) Gunter on July 2, 1974 and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2016.

Jim was educated in Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S Air Force serving from September 1954 to September of 1957. He had worked at General Battery “Exide” in Frankfort for over 34 years. He was a member of the Michigantown Christian Church and enjoyed flea marketing and gardening.

Memorial Donations may be made in Jim’s honor to Alzheimer’s Research.

Visitation and Services

Friends may visit 9-11 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Scott Lehr will officiate.  Burial will follow the services in Bunnell Cemetery Frankfort, IN.

Surviving Family include his 2 Daughters: Linda (Husband Bill) Dean of Frankfort, IN and Marilyn (Husband John) Amos of Michigantown, IN;  1 Son: Rick (Wife Janie) Gunter of Frankfort, IN;  2 Sisters: Helen Calendine of Dover, OH and Martha Dillon of New Philadelphia, OH;  1 Brother: Eddy (Wife Betty) Affolter of Troy, OH;  3 Sisters-in-law:  Doris Affolter of TX, Mary Goodwin and  Millie Danner both of Frankfort;  8 Grandchildren:  Brenda (Husband Jeff) Parker, Jenny (Husband Randy) Sexton, Scott (Wife LeeAnne) Lehr, Jessica (Husband Travis) Lane, Andrhea (Husband Brandon) Starkey, Jaclyn Dean, Derick (Wife Amber) Amos, and Chalise (Husband Matt) Johnson;  16 Great-Grandchildren:  Tyler, Brooke, Tanner, Evan, J.T., Hayden, Wyatt, Makenzie, Nolan, Lacey, Colston, Kobi, Keelend, Kenna, Kohle, and Dagan.  Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by parents: Homer R. Affolter and Olive (Metzger) Affolter, Daughter Brenda Monroe, Brother Benjamin Affolter, and 3 Sisters Doddie Bucher, Mary Calendine, and June Swonger.

    Uncle Jim will be missed! He was such a kind soul and a very good man. He was so proud of his inherited children and their families. He loved his wife Hazel so much as well. You all made his life a joy. Please don’t forget your extended family here in Ohio. We love you all!
