Dick L. Walters

September 30, 2017

Dick L. Walters, 83, of Frankfort, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, September 30, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in 1933 to Ernest & Wilma (Denney) Walters in Wabash, Ind.

Dick was a 1951 graduate of South Whitley High School.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central College and his master’s degree from Ball State Teachers College.  He met his wife of 61 years, Nancy Rosalie Walters, while a student at Indiana Central and they were married on June 30, 1956.

Dick served in the Indiana National Guard from 1959-1963.  Dick and Rosie made their home in Clinton County, Ind., where Dick was a high school teacher for 43 years.  He taught at Forest High School from 1956-1960, then at Clinton Central High School from 1961 until his retirement in 1999.  He was head of the business department and senior sponsor while at Clinton Central. Dick was a wonderful, kind and caring man who made a difference in so many lives.

Dick enjoyed being involved with the Frankfort Library and the Garden Club.  But most of all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He especially cherished the annual family beach vacations and his family will always hold those memories in their hearts.

Rosie and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. He was such a wonderful man. I enjoyed working with him during my time at JDRF. He always had a smile on his face and would help with anything we asked of him. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. You could also see the love he had for Rosie. I only knew Dick for three years but he certainly made a lasting impact on my life. I certainly admired him and will forever be grateful to know him.

Mrs. Walters, though I never met your husband, I have heard wonderful things of him. What I do remember is entering your class in the fall of 1970 and spending the middle 2 years of my time at Kyger in your classroom and the life lessons there. I wish you the peace that only comes from the Lord and all Grace. God bless you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. I have such wonderful memories both in class and out, like going to AOL competition in Indianapolis. Rosie and Dick took me, Candace Weaver and two others and stayed at the Embassy Suites. It had just opened. We hadn’t been downtown much so you both showed us the town. You also had a cookout for they class and invited to your home. No matter where we were with the two of you we knew we were going to have fun. He will be missed by everyone who had him for a teacher and a friend. Thinking of you, Rosie, and your family.
