I’m really going to miss Chuck because we still had lots of deals to do together on this earth. He was a mentor and friend. I loved our car rides together, lunches and the hours we spent on the phone talking deals and discussing businesses and the gold mine, but what I loved the most about Chuck was his big heart and love for Jesus.

Chuck probably was one of the most generous people I’ve ever known and the fact that he loved business and deals made him only better in my eyes. He seemed to always be helping someone in need. I heard many stories from him over the years and often thought wow – what a guy. I only pray people think of me in the same ways I think of Chuck Howe.

Chuck was introduced to me through his wife, Alice. What an awesome man! I had the pleasure of working with Chuck the last few years. He always kept me on my toes. He would question my strategy and analysis. He had a very impressive mind.

What I loved most about Chuck was his attitude. He was open to new ideas and geniunely a happy person. We could laugh almost alway through an hour meeting. Chuck made me laugh. I will sorely miss him!

May God welcome him with open arms and bless his family.

    To all our family,
We are saddened to learn of Chuck’s passing. I will miss the laugh and the smile. I will always remember him saying “Let me tell you one more story.” One could tell by the way he talked that he was thought each of you were special and his heart was full of love for you all. He not only loved his Lord, but walked the walk. Many memories of our family gatherings at grandmas and Uncle Paul and Aunt Ruth’s and Conrad’s. I know that Chuck is with our loved ones and still talking. Prayers to all of you in your time of grief from Bruce and Chris (Howe) Underwood.

    Conrad, Linda and Howe family,
You probably will not remember me Conrad; but we worked together; way back when at the Frankfort Municipal Utilities….I believe you were the auditor. I was in the billing department and we had many conversations over balances of water, electric and sewage etc. Of course I remember your Dad, Paul, from back in the day at Bowlin’ Bun….I was saddened to read of the passing of your brother, Chuck. However, my heart smiled at the love this man had for the Lord and the beautiful sweet note he left for his children and grandchildren from his journal. I pray that gives his girls and all of you some comfort knowing he has gone home to be with his heavenly Father. As Chuck said in his note…. he is happy. I truly understand your loss. Keeping your family in prayer.
    Sincerely,

      Thoughts about Chuck Howe

Chuck, my friend, may you rest in peace. I did not know Chuck for a long period of time. We met together with others at various locations around the country to discuss various projects, and we communicated frequently about research and products with which he was involved. Chuck was a quiet, non-assuming, individual and obviously very bright. I soon learned that he was a giant in every endeavor he pursued. I respected Chuck for his expertise and success in many different businesses.
The following is a quote from H. L. Mencken that I think Chuck would approve and to which I have made a slight change: “If, after I depart this vale, you ever remember me and have thought to please my ghost, forgive some sinner, wink your eye at some homely girl, and with your friends, lift your glasses in a hearty toast”.

Chuck will be deeply missed. Kind, faithful, joyful Chuck. He had a giant of a heart and a beautiful soul. He made an impact on many lives and truly shined the love of Jesus. I’m honored to have known him.

    Cassie’s Eulogy (Chuck’s middle daughter)
For those that really know me, you will know that I received the gift of my dad’s sarcasm although I wished I had his knack for telling jokes too. However, I’m glad I didn’t get his gift of lengthy story telling, a small reminder would be my dad’s speech at my wedding I’m pretty sure about ½ way through I was giving him the wrap it up signal. And when he said it’s a long story, he meant it, so grab some snacks :

This is a small excerpt of the Eulogy he did for his mother, our grandma Roo, he said it’s about the DASH, it’s about letting our lives be a testament to the fact we lived, and we made the world a little better.

My dad was many things to many people and I’ve listened to some of the stories this week and wanted to share a few. My friends remember him as the guy that would go out at night and get us all munchos at the gas station or chase us down at the McDonalds drive through if we were out to late. He was the original Uber driver, they knew they could call him if they needed a ride whether I had been out with them or not, he never judged however he might give you a lecture on the way to your house. He faxed, yes, I said faxed me jokes to London when I studied abroad and I would try to do them justice. He is the reason we all know what mushroom hunting is and look forward to it each year. He will forever be known for his Grandpa Chuck chicken, his wonderful boat rides (and storytelling on those boat rides). More recently he has done so much for me, brought me dinner or coffee or just stopped by when “he was in the neighborhood”, we talked twice a day and texted more than that, although he never did understand how to write a short text : I received many well wishes from parents of kids that were on my kids sports teams, he would make an impression even on the sidelines of games, just being kind and getting to know others.

As a grandfather, he loved his grandchildren with all his heart. He was a mentor and a role model to them and I’m thankful for every day and every event he got to spend with them. He was proud of each and every one of them.

My point in all of this is that he was just there for me as I know he was there for many of you in different times of your lives, especially when you needed him, and, in the way, you needed him, as a shoulder to lean on, as a spiritual guide, as a mentor, or a friend. I know you will all miss him, and I know that he put us all in a room for a reason; so look around and make connections today as you have no idea how they could impact your lives tomorrow.

      Dear Cassie and family,
Over the weekend, I watched the memorial video for your dad a couple of times. I’m so glad I returned to this page again today so I could read your message. What a beautiful tribute to your dad! I’m a 1965 FSHS graduate and close friend of Barb’s. I student taught under your grandma Ruth so the Howe family has always been dear to me. I live in Westchester, NY so was unable to attend services for your dad. As I’ve said to Barb, I’m so grateful now that I’ve returned to Frankfort for the last few 1965 reunions and spent time laughing with your dad – as he could always make me do.
My heartfelt love and prayers are with you and your family.
